Itinerary

DAY 1: CUSCO CITY AND SURROUNDINGS

When you arrive at Cusco airport, we will meet you and transport you to your hotel for check-in and relaxation. After you’ve checked in, your adventure starts at 1:30 PM with a tour of Cusco and the numerous Inca ruins across the city.

The journey starts in the Cusco Cathedral, which is embellished with ornate woodwork, spectacular altars, and beautiful paintings done by local artists from the Cusco School that contain hidden aspects of indigenous philosophy.

Following that, we’ll take a short stroll through the ancient center streets towards Qoricancha, or the Temple of the Sun. According to legend, entering this temple required a fast and going barefoot since it was regarded an indigenous sanctuary devoted to the deities of the Sun God, Moon, Stars, Rainbow, Thunder, and Lightning. Here, you may see the Incas’ amazing stone-cutting work, with the greatest degree of accuracy in carving hard stone, where even a sheet of paper cannot fit. Despite earthquakes, these buildings have remained remarkably sturdy to this day.

City Tour Cusco

After viewing Qoricancha, we will board a bus to Sacsayhuaman, which is situated 3 kilometers from Cusco. The Sacsayhuaman plateau provides a panoramic view of Cusco. Sacsayhuaman was constructed with massive limestone pieces weighing 25 to 130 tons. It is made up of three zigzagged terraces placed on top of each other. This location was utilized for meetings and holding numerous festivals such as WARACHIKUY and INTI RAYMI owing to its size and vast area.

We’ll also go to Qenqo, which translates to “labyrinth” in Quechua. It is one kilometer from Sacsayhuaman and is built of limestone rock. Its 500-meter length includes stone sculptures. These constructions were utilized for astronomical, religious, embalming, and mummification reasons, according to historians. Following that, we’ll look at Puka Pukara, which is formed from the Quechua words “Puka” (red) and “Pukara” (fortress), and means “red fortress.” It acted as a territorial boundary to separate districts and impose travel rules, as well as a vital position for control and surveillance of entrance and departure from the Imperial City of Cusco.

This excursion will conclude with a visit to Tambomachay, a rest area situated 9 kilometers from Cusco. It’s also known as the Inca Baths because of the flowing water or the “Waters of Eternal Youth” because of the steady flow of water. Finally, we complete our Cusco City Tour by bringing you back to your accommodation.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

A wander around Plaza de Armas and its surrounds is unavoidable after the tour. You may sample the famed Peruvian food at adjacent restaurants or just sit on one of the Plaza de Armas chairs for a classic picture opportunity. You may enjoy the nightlife surrounding the plaza in a friendly environment, with several nightclubs and pubs packed with visitors and residents seeking to have fun.

DAY 2: CUSCO – SACRED VALLEY (PISAC- AGUAS CALIENTES

Our shuttle will pick you up at your hotel at about 7:00 AM to begin your tour of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. We will travel for one hour to Pisac, where you will be able to see the beauty and historical value of the Sacred Valley.

We will continue our journey by seeing the ancient site of Pisac, which is located at the summit of the town. You’ll see how the villagers employ Inca farming practices to maximize yield on the steep mountains. Later, we’ll visit the Pisac craft market, a vibrant market with a wide range of handcrafted works for sale. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant in Urubamba at noon.

After lunch, we’ll go to Ollantaytambo, another Inca archeological site. The town is famous for its urban architecture, which has mostly remained untouched since the Incas’ time. You will ascend the castle and see the Temple of the Sun, which will disclose fascinating details about Inca architecture and culture. Following the guided tour, you will have the opportunity to explore the town and its surroundings on your own.

Following our tour to Ollantaytambo, we will take a train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes, the entrance to Machu Picchu. You will settle into your accommodation in Aguas Calientes and get a short briefing for your excursion to Machu Picchu the following day.

DAY 3: MACHU PICCHU – AGUAS CALIENTES

Our guide will pick you up from your accommodation early in the morning and transport you to the bus station for your travel to the Machu Picchu Archaeological Sanctuary. The bus trip, which takes around 25 minutes, is the most usual route to go to the Inca citadel. When we get in Machu Picchu, we’ll go on a tour of the Main Circuit (Circuit 2), and you’ll get the famous snapshot of the citadel. Our tour guide will begin by providing you with a greater grasp of the past in perfect harmony with nature and wisdom. In a 2 to 3 hour trip, we will stroll through agricultural and urban districts, including plazas, temples, roadways, stairways, terraces, aqueducts, and more, examining the architecture of the Inca Citadel.

You will view the mountains around Machu Picchu and the Urubamba River flowing into the rugged rainforest as we rise to the summit. After the tour, we return to Aguas Calientes for lunch before boarding the train back to Ollantaytambo, where our vehicle will be ready to take you to your accommodation in Cusco.

DAY 4: MARAS-MORAY AND MARAS SALT MINES

We will pick you up from your hotel at roughly 7:30 a.m. to begin our trip to the Moray and Maras Salt Mines. In our vehicle, we will next go to Moray and the Maras salt mines. You will travel through breathtaking Andean scenery that is home to various animals and forests. First, we’ll go to the Moray archaeological site, which is 38 kilometers from Cusco. Moray is regarded as an Inca agricultural laboratory created in the shape of concentric rings, notably four veryus, or circles. The deepest terrace is 80 meters deep, while the smallest is 36 meters in diameter.

Temperature fluctuations within the terraces vary from 0.5 to 1.5 °C per terrace, reproducing up to 20 distinct microclimates. According to legend, the goal of this archeological site was to produce goods that did not grow naturally in this location.

Tour Maras Moray

Then we’ll go to the Maras salt mines. These are salt mines, as the name implies, consisting of around 3,000 tiny pools, each yielding 50 to 80 kg of salt every season. Salt pools are claimed to have served the Incas’ salt requirements in the Cusco area and its vicinity. One crop season takes more than two months to complete, and these pools receive their water from an underground saltwater spring. Maras salt is widely sought after, with pink mineral salt being the best grade and also having therapeutic benefits. Don’t forget to pick up any salt-based items along the route.

These two locations, without a doubt, have a rich history and intriguing information that our guide will discuss with you throughout the route. After viewing and exploring these amazing places, our transportation will pick us up and take us back to Cusco, where our trip will conclude at around 2:00 pm, bringing our tour to Moray and the Maras salt mines to a close.
