If you think the trek might be too strenuous, you can book the 2-day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in one day but at a slower pace later in the day.
Short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in 1 Day
- Hike the best part of the famous Inca Trail as you embark on a full day hiking adventure on the Inca Trail from kilometer 104 to Machu Picchu via the sun gate and Discover Machu Picchu instantly!
- At 4:00 am our guide will pick you up at your hotel in Cusco or at 5:30 am in Ollantaytambo, if you want to start there.
- We will transfer you by private vehicle to Ollantaytambo station to board the train at 6:00 am.
- Depart from the Expedition train, enjoy breathtaking views and natural landscapes along the sacred Urubamba River to the start of the Inca Trail, known as Km 104.
- 7:30 to 8:00 In the morning, you will pass the Inca Trail checkpoint, then you and your guide will begin hiking the Inca Trail following the Inca footsteps to the Inti Punku “Gate of the Sun” for the first look at Machu Picchu. The exact time depends on the walking speed
- You’ll see vast mountain views, lush subtropical vegetation, exceptional ecological varieties, and explore amazing Inca cities along the Inca Trail, especially the stunning archeological site Wiñay Wayna
- You’ll have time to enjoy a packed lunch after exploring the Wiñay Wayna archaeological site, usually around midday.
- About an hour after lunch, you’ll arrive at Inti Punku, also known as the Gate of the Sun, where you’ll get your first look at Machu Picchu!
- Around 2 pm you will begin to explore the ancient Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. Your guide will explain all the history of this wonderful and mysterious Inca city.
- In the late afternoon, enjoy the sunset and take the iconic picture of Machu Picchu without tourists before setting off to catch the bus.
- At 5:00 p.m., catch the bus to Aguas Calientes, have a quick dinner at the restaurant, or buy takeaway dinner to eat on board. (Dinner not included). Train

Overview
Day 01: Cusco – Ollantaytambo – Km 104 – Wiñay Wayna – Sun Gate – Machu Picchu – Aguas Calientes – Cusco
We will begin the Inca Trail Day Tour by picking you up from your hotel in Cusco at 4:00 am and take you to our private vehicle to Ollantaytambo train station (If you want to start in Ollantaytambo we will pick you up from your hotel at 5:30 am).
Before boarding the Expedition Class train at 6:10 am in Ollantaytambo, we will provide you with a lunch box that you will carry in your backpack. You and your guide will then take the train for 1 hour 30 minutes to begin the Inca Trail, known as km 104 (2,000m / 6,560ft above sea level).
After passing the Inca Trail checkpoint, your guide will take you to visit the first archaeological center, called Chachabamba. The site was one of the last shelters used by the Inca pilgrims before they reached Machu Picchu. The Chachabamba Inca site includes a number of fascinating buildings, and your guide will be happy to share the history with you.
Then, your Inca Trail hike begins with a steady ascent for about 3 hours, climbing the original Inca stone steps, with several lookout points where you’ll stop to take in the view. beautiful view of Urubamba River. Along the way, your guide will help you identify the different types of flora and fauna found in this unique area. After passing a spectacular waterfall, you will arrive at the Wiñay Wayna archaeological site, located at an altitude (2,650 m / 8,69 ft above sea level). Most hikers stop here to marvel at its exquisite architecture.
At the amazing archeological site of Wiñay Wayna, you’ll find many sources of water for rituals, sacred places dedicated to nature deities such as the Temple of the Rainbow, and beautiful agricultural platforms overlooking the river Urubamba. Wiñay Wayna (Quechua means “youth forever”) is the perfect place to learn a little more about the impressive history of the Incas, spend some time in peace, and quiet, and connect with Mother Earth through language. birdsong or gentle breezes.
After exploring the Wiñay Wayna archaeological site, you will walk 5 minutes to the lunch site and have time to eat a delicious packed lunch provided by our company, admiring the tropical flowers around, then relax and recharge. You’ll also see campgrounds where Classic Inca Trail runners spend the night before heading to Machu Picchu.
After lunch, you will have a mainly walk to Inti Punku, famous as Sun Gate, from where you will have the first view of the impressive architecture of this Inca Majestic city. Although walking around the soft hour from top to bottom, it ends with a sloping staircase that is engraved directly in the Inca stone substrate. Once you have come to the stairs, you will know that you are almost in Inti Punku.
Sunrise, also known as Inti Punku in Quechua, is located at 2,720 meters / 2,92 feet with the first view of Machu Picchu Beautiful, in all the great and majestic statements, It is difficult to inflict the impact of this old, sacred, and world-famous website.
After taking the time to take advantage of the views and capture these important photos, you will step down after the Inca traces on the Inca trail for about an hour of Machu Picchu’s ruins. After wrapping up this magical experience at one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, we’ll head down to the main entrance of Machu Picchu, from where we’ll catch a bus to Aguas Calientes, also known as Machu Picchu Pueblo. In the afternoon you will take the Expedition train at 6:20 pm to Ollantaytambo station and take your private vehicle to Cusco and we will drop you off at your hotel around 10:00 pm.
