Description
Puno Lake Titicaca 3 days
Legend of Puno Lake Titicaca has it that the sun god, pitied by the state of barbarism lived by the people, sent his children; born from the foams of the lake, Manco Capac and Mama Ocllo, in order to civilize and teach men.
He then gave them a crowbar, charging them that wherever they went they would seek to introduce it into the ground and that the place where it sank would designate the place where the capital of an empire should be founded.
Obeying the divine mandate, the couple left one of the islands of Lake Titicaca, “today called Isla del Sol” and headed north in search of the site where they would establish the imperial city. After several days of travel and unsuccessfully dropping the ground, they reached the Huanacaure hill and there the crowbar sank at the first blow. Then, in that place, Manco Capac and Mama Ocllo founded the capital of the Inca Empire, fulfilling its mission.
Manco Capac taught men the secrets of agriculture as the cultivation of the land, the planting of seeds and the manufacture of necessary tools for these tasks. He also taught them to build their houses, roads, and aqueducts. Mama Ocllo, meanwhile, taught women to spin and weave, to make dresses and perform housework, such as cooking, washing, etc.
