Puno Islands is located at an altitude of approximately 4000 meters above sea level, and on the shores of Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world. According to the legend, this lake is the cradle of the Inca civilization of Manco Capac and Mama Ocllo, sons of the Sun God, emerged from the cold waters of the lake to found the City of Cusco and begin its civilization. From here you will have the opportunity to experience the traditions and festivities that have been preserved by the population for centuries.
Itinerary
Day 1: Juliaca – Puno
Assistance upon arrival in Juliaca. On the way to Puno, we will visit the famous Chullpas de Sillustani, 12 high chambers of the stone cylinder 40ft burial, used by the Aymara Indians to bury the high ones. Lake Umayo, located in front of the Chullpas, adds beauty to the place. Here you also have the opportunity to observe wild guinea pigs, local birds, and wildlife. Arrival at the selected hotel, where we will have free time to rest and acclimatize to the altitude. Food: None If you arrive by train the excursion to Sillustani will be done on day 3
Day 2: Lake Titicaca
Floating Islands of the Uros and Taquile Early in the morning, we take a two-hour motor boat trip in the waters of Lake Titicaca to visit the Uros Floating Islands. These ancient inhabitants of the lake, known as the water tribe, have built their own islands by periodically adding new layers of a unique species of reeds from the area called “Totora”. Their houses and boats are also made of this material. We continue sailing to the Island of Taquile, inhabited by Quechua natives who have developed an efficient and original social system, as well as a magnificent weaving technique, through the generations. Upon arrival at the center of Taquile, we will have lunch. Then we will have a walk through its hills and archaeological sites of the long island 6km. In the afternoon, return to Puno and transfer to the selected hotel. Food: Breakfast and lunch
Day 3: Puno – Juliaca
In the morning, after breakfast, transfer to Juliaca airport to take your flight out.
